Many thanks to my publisher Freehand for sending me to read from my book People Who Disappear in Regina, Calgary and Toronto. All three readings were packed and it was an honour to read with the three other Freehand writers this season, Melanie Schnell, Ian Williams and Julie Wilson.
Since my chapbook of microfictions came out in the fall I’ve taken a few opportunities to write short prose pieces relating to/modeled after the work of visual artists. I have a piece in this feature by Ottawa-based Guerilla Magazine which paired several Canadian writers with the small dioramas of Ottawa artist Patti Normand. The other writers are Weyman Chan, Ed Spence, Michael Murray and Lesley Buxton. I also have a short prose piece forthcoming in an online project based on the visual work of Randy Grskovic. I always love these chances to write outside and around my short stories.
At the end of May I’ll be teaching a workshop at the Shuswap Writers Festival in Salmon Arm, Word On the Lake. Other writers teaching/reading include Gujinder Basran and Ivan E. Coyote. Info on the festival is here.
