Olympics BLACKOUT poems

During the Olympics I ran the public art project BLACKOUT AT THE CANDAHAR with poet Elizabeth Bachinsky. Over the two weeks of the Games, over 300 members of the public contributed to BLACKOUT by making erasure poems with local newspaper articles about the Olympics and black markers. Experimental poetry meets censorship.

Elizabeth and I each wrote an essay about our experience of running BLACKOUT — the project’s context and politics. Those essays are currently in Vancouver magazine subTERRAIN.

Due to copyright concerns the BLACKOUT poems couldn’t be published with our essays in subTERRAIN.

Some of the poems are below.
